What initially drew you to apply for a job at Marks and Spencer?

Well, it's a bit of a personal story, really. Growing up, my dad was always a loyal M&S shopper, and I admired the brand's commitment to excellent customer service. So, when I was studying at university, I knew I wanted to work in retail, and M&S seemed like the perfect fit. When I got the job, my dad was so proud!

Tell us more about your career at M&S so far.

After graduating with a degree in Management and Leadership, I joined M&S as a Customer Assistant. I saw so much potential for growth within the company and was determined to make the most of it. Through hard work, learning from available resources, and seizing every opportunity that came my way, I gradually worked my way up the ladder. Joining in a temporary role, I didn't think there would be much of an opportunity to progress but M&S are really passionate about colleagues' progression and seeing everyone achieve their best. And now, here I am, as a Store Manager.

What do you enjoy most about working for M&S, and what keeps you motivated in your role?

Honestly, it's the people and the environment. At M&S, I can truly be myself without fear of judgment. Every day is different, and I love the fast-paced nature of my job. But what really keeps me going is the opportunity to develop my team, provide excellent customer service, and continue growing both personally and professionally.

Working at M&S feels like being part of a big family. The company truly cares about its employees' wellbeing and development, offering flexible work options and plenty of opportunities for growth. Plus, the supportive and inclusive environment makes it a joy to come to work every day.

How has M&S supported your career development and progression within the company?

M&S has been incredibly supportive every step of the way. There's a wealth of learning materials available, and my managers and leaders have always been there to guide and encourage me. Whether it's through formal training programmes or on-the-job coaching, I've always felt empowered to push my boundaries and reach for new heights.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career at M&S?

My advice would be to seize every opportunity that comes your way, work hard, and stay true to yourself. Whether you're starting as a seasonal temp, having a career change or joining through the graduate scheme, there's something here for everyone.
