We’re looking for a Food Safety & Compliance Manager to join our Food Operations & Trading team. This is a pivotal role in protecting our people, customers, brand, property and profit by leading the Group Food Safety & Compliance strategy across Retail, Convenience and Logistics.

You’ll bring deep expertise in food safety and compliance, ensuring M&S not only meets its legal obligations but also sets the standard for safe, responsible trading. From developing policies and inspection strategies to responding to incidents and external enforcement, you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding our business and driving continuous improvement.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining Group Food Safety & Compliance policy, procedures and HACCP systems.
  • Designing learning solutions to upskill colleagues and embed a strong safety culture.
  • Leading the inspection and verification strategy to monitor compliance across stores.
  • Managing incidents, customer complaints and enforcement actions, implementing preventive measures.
  • Partnering with regulatory bodies, suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify risks, improve standards and deliver sustainable compliance.

Who you are

  • Your skills and experience will include:
  • Qualified in Food Safety Level 3 & 4, HACCP Level 3 & 4 and Allergens Level 3.
  • Strong expertise in food safety, compliance and incident management.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, coaching and influencing skills.
  • Ability to analyse data to identify risks, trends and root causes.
  • Resilient, flexible and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Communicate clearly and openly, ensuring colleagues understand expectations and business priorities.
