Everyone is welcome at M&S. No exceptions. It’s your background, abilities and differences that make you, uniquely you. And when you’re part of M&S, that individuality has the potential to make waves.
This section tells you all you need to know about the position and its responsibilities, outlining everything we hope to see in a successful candidate.
To stay close to our customers and colleagues, our support teams are in the office for at least three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Procurement team at a pivotal time for M&S, as we continue to transform our store estate, modernise retail operations and unlock greater commercial value across the business.
We’re looking for three Procurement Category Managers to join our Retail and Property Procurement team, reporting into the Head of Procurement, Property and Retail Services. You’ll be part of a high-performing, collaborative team. This team works closely with colleagues in Property, Retail, Finance, Legal, and our supplier network. Together, they deliver meaningful commercial impact in areas central to M&S’s future.
The team operates as one joined-up function, with Category Managers owning key areas of spend while also working flexibly across Property and Retail to support business priorities, project demands and development opportunities.
Property
Two of the roles will focus on Property, supporting a spend of approximately £600m and playing an important part in M&S’ New and Renewal Store programme as we continue to expand and modernise our retail footprint across the UK.
You’ll develop and deliver category strategies across store fit-out and related areas, including shopfit equipment, flooring, lighting, refrigeration, ovens, racking and furniture. This is a brilliant opportunity to shape the supply base, identify high-quality partners, support major store programmes and leverage demand to maximise commercial value.
Retail
One of the roles will focus on Retail Operations, a broad and varied category with spend of approximately £280m. This includes services and goods such as Security, Cleaning, Waste, Cash Management, Consumables, Carrier Bags, Hangers and Mystery Shopping.
As part of M&S’ Retail Transformation programme, this role will support the modernisation of store operations, driving efficiency, innovation and cost improvement. Procurement is leading the “Cost Out” agenda, reviewing the supply base, optimising scope, identifying tendering opportunities and negotiating strong commercial outcomes.
Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

We're at our best when we're close to customers, and for many of us at M&S, that means working in store every day.
To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected. It also means we can solve problems as soon as they arise, learn and grow as a team, build trust, and get closer to our colleagues.
Your voice and your ideas matter here. Our 8 colleague networks are places to find support, listen to each other and encourage debate. You can pitch ideas ‘Straight to Stuart’, our CEO, or get involved in our BIG (Business involvement Group).
You’ll spend 7 days each year helping in store and getting closer to our customers. We also organise Insight Days, so you can learn more about specific business units, like Foods.
Here’s what to expect at each stage of the application process. This can change depending on the role you’ve applied to. If you need any reasonable adjustments made at any stage, let us know and we can help.
Fill in our short application form and hit submit.
Depending on the role, you may be invited to take part in an online assessment. Should you be invited to an online assessment your Talent Acquisition Partner will be more than happy to support you with any questions.
We'll invite you to join us for an interview. This could be remote or in person. Here, we'll ask you some role based technical questions and examine the behaviours we're looking for.
After we’ve decided, we’ll be in touch. If you’ve been successful, we’ll officially invite you to join the team and let you know the next steps.
