Summary
FHSC Support Manager
All the details
Join M&S Business Continuity & Safety as a regional safety & compliance specialist supporting UK & ROI retail stores. You’ll independently inspect M&S-owned stores to ensure we trade safely and legally across Fire, Health & Safety and Food Safety & Compliance; produce clear reports and drive timely corrective actions; coach store and regional leaders; and deliver practical interventions that protect our people, brand, property and profit. You’ll also support new openings/renewals and provide insight to central teams to simplify ways of working. We’re looking for a customer‑centric self‑starter with experience in retail safety/compliance, strong communication and coaching skills, and a passion for doing the right thing.
Due to high interest, this role may close earlier than advertised. We recommend applying as soon as possible.

What you’ll do

Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Conduct independent Fire, Health & Safety (FHS) and Food Safety & Compliance (FS&C) inspections across UK & ROI stores, with timely revisits and remote close‑out of actions.
  • Produce clear, consistent inspection reports; ensure corrective actions are understood and completed on time.
  • Lead accident triage and effective RIDDOR reporting; follow up on regulator visits and conduct reactive investigations as required.
  • Act as first‑line regional support—resolving queries, coaching Store/Regional Managers & Safety Officers, delivering L&D workshops, and supporting network meetings and performance reporting.
  • Support safe execution of new store openings, closures and renewals; share foresight with central teams to simplify processes and drive cost‑efficient ways of working.
Who you are

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Relevant experience across Fire, Health & Safety and Food Safety & Compliance in a retail environment, with strong knowledge of legal and operational controls.
  • Working towards/holding NEBOSH General Certificate and Food Safety Level 4 (M&S Safety Officer T2T can be achieved in role); commitment to ongoing CPD.
  • Skilled communicator and coach who builds trusted relationships across stores, regions and central teams.
  • Analytical, well‑organised self‑starter—plans inspections effectively, writes concise reports and meets deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Confident handling incident triage, RIDDOR requirements and engagement with enforcement bodies/Primary Authorities.
